Apple Home hubs

A hub is the always-on brain of your Apple Home. It runs automations, gives remote access, and can act as a Thread border router.

Which devices are hubs?

• HomePod (1st gen, 2nd gen)
• HomePod mini
• Apple TV HD / Apple TV 4K
• Apple's rumored screen hub (“HomePad”) — unannounced as of now

What a hub unlocks

• Remote access — control devices when you're not home.
• Automations that run without your phone present.
• Thread border routing for Thread-based accessories.
• HomeKit Secure Video recording and analysis.

No hub yet? A HomePod mini is the cheapest entry. Then check which of your devices are locks, cameras or sensors that pair cleanly — our matrix lists them by protocol and hub requirement.
